Stockholm to unveil Hallstrom's 'Hypnotist'

LONDON -- Lasse Hallstrom's "The Hypnotist," his first Swedish film in 24 years, will be unveiled in unfinished form at the Stockholm Film Festival in November. The film is included in the fest's Work In Progress section (Nov. 17-18), dedicated to screening upcoming Nordic movies that are in their final stages of completion. "The Hypnotist" is a Swedish murder thriller starring Mikael Persbrandt ("The Hobbit," "In a Better World"). Produced by Peter Possne's Sonet Film, it's based on the first novel in a detective series by Lars Kepler, and is intended to be the start of a franchise. The pic marks Hallstrom's return to Swedish cinema for the first time since he was Oscar-nominated for his breakthrough pic "My Life as a Dog" in 1988. His latest international movie, "Salmon Fishing in the Yemen," was well received at the recent Toronto Film Festival, where it was acquired by CBS Films for U.S. distribution. Other high-profile titles in Stockholm's Work in Progress sidebar include Babak Najafi's "Easy Money 2," the sequel to the hit Swedish crime thriller; and "Comrade," a Danish-Norwegian war movie by Peter Naess ("Elling").
