Legendary East hit by investor worries
BEIJING Legendary Pictures' plans for Hollywood-China movie production venture Legendary East experienced a setback yesterday following a key investor, Hong Kong's Paul Y. Engineering Group (PYE), put its $220.5 million investment on hold due to shaky real estate markets. Deal was among the greatest of the raft of contracts between Hollywood shingles and Chinese gamers targeted at engaging in the flourishing Chinese market. PYE stated inside a statement that even though stock placing had received an optimistic response, it wasn't enough to accomplish the placing prior to the year-finish deadline and the organization made the decision to place the placing on hold. "However, we maintain that diversification by having an purchase of Legendary East is advantageous to PYE. We intend to sort out an enhanced structure with the aim of re-starting the transactions," PYE chairman James Chiu stated. PYE is openly exchanged around the Hong Kong stock exchange and tried to enhance the Legendary East funds by placing new company stock with private equity finance firm AID Partners, and thru UBS AG, with other institutional and professional traders. PYE stated it might repeat the process in 2012 with the partners to change the dwelling from the deal. Underneath the original proposal, PYE planned to consider a 50% stake in Legendary East. Thomas Tull's Legendary Entertainment could have been playing a 40% stake in Legendary East and China's Huayi Siblings might have the rest of the 10%. In June, Tull merged with Chinese-born Hong Kong media and finance entrepreneur Kelvin Wu to produce Legendary East. The aim have been to create a couple of large-budget movies annually beginning in 2013 which were targeted at global auds but additionally in a commercial sense viable in China. The films may be mainly in British and have styles according to Chinese history, mythology or culture. Wu, formerly of Orange Sky Golden Harvest Entertainment, can serve as Legendary East's Boss and it is a principal at private equity finance firm AID Partners, which joined right into a "subscription agreement" to take a position $35 million in PYE to become significant investor in the organization. PYE is better noted for its property management biz in Hong Kong's flourishing housing market as well as for engineering work which has assisted shape the city's ever-altering skyline. Among PYE's towers, the middle, that is Hong Kong's fifth highest skyscraper, was adopted like a location in "The Dark Dark night," which Legendary co-funded with Warner Bros. Legendary East ended up being to enable Tull to bypass Chinese government limitations that put a 20-pic limit on foreign films that may participate in the country's theaters, and permit him to enjoy the growing box office in the area. Chinese B.O. increased 64% to $1.5 billion this year and it is likely to grow 30% this year to $2 billion. Contact the range newsroom at news@variety.com

In The Event You Bring Your Children to determine 'War Horse'?
Steven Spielberg's new film, 'War Equine,' is accumulating the accolades and being recommended like a movie for the entire family. But given its subject material -- a boy surrenders his beloved equine Joey towards the war effort -- could it be really okay for young children? The film is ranked PG-13 for "intense sequences of war violence," but that warning in the MPAA does not start to cover the trauma that Joey (as well as several humans) undergoes. SPOILERS ahead. 1. Heartbreaking goodbyes. Albert (Jeremy Irvine) needs to market his equine, Joey, to some soldier headed for that front, but that is where it starts of a number of wrenching goodbyes as Joey is handed removed from owner to owner, all of whom forms an immediate bond using the noble creature. 2. Violence. This can be a war film and you will find several fight sequences, one of these so intense it may have been removed of Spielberg's R-ranked opus 'Saving Private Ryan.' You will find no overflowing braches or extreme gore, but several figures we have grown mounted on do meet their demise. 3. Human deaths. Talking about deaths, a persons dying toll is mainly made off-screen (a companion-in-arms is engulfed by gas, instructions involves talk about the dying of some other), however the war certainly got its toll. Even more youthful figures aren't able to escape, although their deaths are communicated with a few discretion. 4. Animal deaths. We will not spoil you whether Joey lives or dies, but he is doing endure probably the most extreme trauma any screen animal has ever needed to suffer. In possibly probably the most distressing, a stress-stricken Joey is entangled in barbed wire and not able to free themself. Bizarrely, this terrible scene creates a lighthearted exchange by which two soldiers from opposing armies interact to free him. You can argue in addition upsetting: Shots from the physiques of a large number of horses littered around the battleground or whenever a soldier is purchased to place Joey from his misery by shooting him within the mind. One prolonged animal dying particularly may have you sobbing your vision out. Main point here: Despite the fact that the film comes with its soaring, inspiring moments and a lot of glorious equine moments, it is too violent and intense for youthful children. Our advice: Don't bring anybody under 12. [Photo: Disney] The Very Best Movies of 2011 The Very Best Movies of 201150. 'Breaking Beginning. 'Transformers: Dark from the Moonཬ. 'The Tripཫ. 'Warriorཪ. Box Office Report: 'New Year's Eve' Leads Worst Weekend Since 2008 With $13.7 Million
Garry Marshall's star-studded ensemble pic New Year's Eve stumbled in its box office debut, grossing a tepid $13.7 million as overall box office revenues fell to their lowest levels in more than three years.our editor recommends'New Year's Eve': What the Critics Are Saying'New Year's Eve': Abigail Breslin Talks About Her First On-Screen Kiss (Video)Why 'Moneyball' Star Jonah Hill Is Living With His ParentsNew Movie Reviews: 'Hugo,' 'The Muppets,' 'My Week With Marilyn' Hitting TheatersRelated Topics•Box Office Updates Early and mid-December are always sluggish because of holiday preparations, but Warner Bros. and New Line still expected New Year's Eve to earn $20 million or more in its opening. The pic's cast includes Michelle Pfeiffer, Zac Efron, Ashton Kutcher, Katherine Heigl, Lea Michele, Robert De Niro, Josh Duhamel, Halle Berry, Abigail Breslin, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, Hilary Swank and Seth Meyers. PHOTOS: 'New Year's Eve' Premiere Red Carpet Arrivals "The box office was just in really bad shape," Warner Bros. president of domestic distribution Dan Fellman said. "While we had the No. 1 movie, we were No. 1 in a very soft market." Overall box revenues for the weekend reached an estimated $78 million, the lowest number since early September 2008, when revenues only reached $68 million over the Sept. 5-7 weekend. This weekend was down 15 percent from the same frame a year ago and 4 percent from last weekend in a sobering reminder of the downturn that has gripped the domestic box office for much of 2011. "There weren't enough moviegoers," said Fellman, "and the only thing you can hope for is that the big Christmas films, which start to kick in next weekend, help to pick up the pace. Overseas, New Year's Eve grossed $12.9 million as it opened in 36 markets, including $2.4 million both in the U.K. and Australia, for a total worldwide bow of $26.6 million. In the U.S., New Year's Eve even scored better exits than Marshall's Valentine's Day, which opened to a massive $72 million over the four-day Valentine's Day/President's Day weekened in 2010. And New Year's Eve received a B+ CinemaScore, compared to a B for Valentine's Day. As expected, the ensemble romantic comedy played heavily to females, who made up 70 percent of the audience. Opening to No. 2 after New Year's Eve was 20th Century Fox's R-rated comedy The Sitter, headlining Jonah Hill in his first starring vehicle. The film debuted to $10 million, in line with pre-weekend tracking. STORY:Jonah Hill on Turning Serious and Earning Oscar Buzz for 'Moneyball' (Video) The Sitter cost less than $25 million, while New Year's Eve's production budget is pegged at $56 million. The comedy, produced by Michael De Luca, played evenly to males and females, with 47 percent of the audience under the age of 25. In the film--which received only a C+ CinemaScore--Hill plays a college student on suspension who is prodded into babysitting the kids next door. Things go askew when he takes them for a wild ride across NY City after being promised sex with his girlfriend. "We opened in line with our pre-release expectations, and we'll continue to play as the college crowd finishes up finals," said Chris Aronson, Fox's senior vice president of domestic distribution. Among holdovers, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn--Part 1 fell to No. 3 after ruling the top spot for three consecutive weekends. The pic grossed $7.9 million for a domestic cume of $259.6 million. Sony and Aardman's Arthur Christmas fell only 11 percent from last weekend, the best hold of any nationwide release, grossing $6.6 million for a cume of $33.5 million. Overseas, the holiday pic racked up another $14.3 million from 63 territories for a foreign total of $57.5 million for a world cume of $91 million. Martin Scorsese's 3D family friendly film Hugo, distributed by Paramount, fell a narrow 19 percent at the domestic box office as it upped its theater count from roughly 1,800 to 2,608, grossing $6.1 million for a domestic cume of $33.5 million in its third weekend. Paramount believes that Hugo, which received a B+ CInemaScore as it expanded, will remain a player throughout the holidays, since it is appealing to a multi-generational audience. However, whether Graham King's GK Films, which fully financed the movie, can recoup its costs is a question mark, since Hugo cost well north of $100 million to produce. COVER STORY:Martin Scorsese Talks 'Hugo,' Recurring Nightmares and How His 12-Year-Old Rules the Roost Hugo--named best film of the year by the National Board of Review--is among a slew of movies positioning themselves as awards season heats up and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association prepares to announce Golden Globe nominations on Dec. 15. Tinker, Tailor, Soldier Spy scored the third best opening of the year for a limited release, grossing $300,737 from four theaters in NY and Los Angeles for a location average of $75,184. The only films to score a higher theater average this year were Midnight in Paris ($99,834) and The Tree of Life ($93,000). Tinker Tailor--starring Gary Oldman, Colin Firth and Tom Hardy--was produced by Working Title. Focus Features is distributing the British espionage pic in the U.S. Jason Reitman's Charlize Theron starrer Young Adult also opened to strong numbers, grossing $320,000 from eight theaters in five cities for a location average of $40,000. Cheers & Jeers: CBS Bungles the Robert Wagner Case
Robert Wagner Jeers to CBS for going full-steam-ahead with an NCIS episode that felt unintentionally - and uncomfortably - ripped from the headlines. Want more Cheers & Jeers? Subscribe to TV Guide Magazine. Robert Wagner reprised his recurring role as Anthony DiNozzo, Sr., the devil-may-care dad who often needs his son, Tony (Michael Weatherly), to help get him out of scrapes. And the one in "Sins of the Father" was a doozy: The patriarch woke up drunk behind the wheel of a car with a dead sailor in the trunk-a guy he'd threatened to kill over a land deal gone bad. In light of the new allegations that Wagner may have played a role in the death of his wife Natalie Wood after an alcohol-fueled argument on board a boat 30 years ago, it was impossible to ignore lines like, "I had a few drinks last night - maybe a few too many. That's all I'm guilty of," and "Do you think it's possible I killed him? I could always hold my liquor." Of course, Tony Sr. was ultimately found innocent, and police are saying Wagner is not suspected of murdering Wood. But could it really have hurt CBS to delay the episode for a few weeks - even if it meant not airing it during November sweeps - out of respect for the families involved? Do you think CBS should've postponed last night's NCIS? Subscribe to TV Guide Magazine now!

Bella Swan, Real Girl?
“The Twilight series challenges what I would call the ‘Buffy Summers Maxim’: that teen heroines be physically empowered, oftentimes at the expense of emotional clarity. Bella Swan diverges from many of our more recent teenaged female heroines. The ones who appear in films — the feisty Olive from Easy A, the quirky ironist Juno MacGuff — often seem to be written by thirtysomethings seemingly desperate to revisit high school to work some alchemical magic: turning the abjection of it all into a badge of indie cred. But even the more complicated female heroines of recent young adult fiction — Katniss Everdeen of The Hunger Games or Katsa of Graceling — embody a suspiciously pleasing, ‘empowered’ form of female adolescence.” [The Hairpin]

Steven Spielberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg Support Wendy Greuel For L.A. Mayor
When it comes to local Los Angeles politics, most of high-level Hollywood traditionally takes a hands-off position, but the old school tie still counts-even in the entertainment industry. PHOTOS: Box Office Politics: The Movies and Stars Dems Vs. GOP-ers Love (and Love to Hate) Monday, City Controller and 2012 mayoral hopeful Wendy Greuel, a onetime DreamWorks SKG executive, made public a letter announcing that her campaign has secured the endorsement-and fund-raising support-of her former employers, Democratic heavyweights Steven Spielberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg, David Geffen. The DreamWorks troika notes in the letter-a copy of which was provided to The Hollywood Reporter-that Greuel "would bring to the job the same level of energy, insight and determination " she showed while working as an executive at DreamWorks SKG from 1997 to 2002. PHOTOS: 10 Hollywood Players That Will Make a Difference in the 2012 Elections According to the letter: "If elected, Wendy would be the first woman to serve as Mayor of Los Angeles. . .While on the Los Angeles City Council, she received high marks for simplifying the City's Business Tax Code, preserving the environment and open spaces, and was actually dubbed the 'Pothole Queen' for her tireless efforts on behalf of her constituents to fix our streets. . .As City Controller, Wendy has fought to fix our City's long-term financial issues and is working to make agencies like the DWP more efficient and accountable to the public." Perhaps most significant, Spielberg, Katzenberg and Geffen invite others to join them "in supporting her campaign with the maximum (legally) allowable contribution of $1,000 per person." Hollywood's deep pocket donors have long been a sort of Holy Grail for LA's local politicians, though that money usually has remained tantalizingly out of reach, as the industry focuses its giving on national candidates and issues. If Greuel can use her DreamWorks connection to break through that indifference, it will be a considerable boost for her candidacy. First Published: November 10, 2011 7:02 PM EST Credit: Caption Will Howard Stern replace Piers Morgan on Americas Got Talent? NY, N.Y. -- Could Americas most famous radio DJ be in line to replace outgoing judge Piers Morgan on Americas Got Talent? Sources told The Wall Street Journal that shock jock Howard Stern is in talks with NBC to join the panel, which includes Sharon Osbourne and comedian Howie Mandel. The paper reported that the deal could be worth $15 million a year to bring Howard to the AGT fold. This is not the first time Howard, who hosts his The Howard Stern Show on SiriusXM Radio, has been bandied about as a potential reality show judge. AH Nation Poll: Would Howard Stern be a good choice to replace Piers Morgan on Americas Got Talent? Click HERE to vote! He suggested American Idol needed him back in February 2010 in an interview with Access Hollywood. Theyve got a bunch of people on there who dont have an opinion, he told Access at the time about the then-AI panel, which included Ellen DeGeneres, Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi. Judging is an interesting thing. What I do for a living is a lot more complicated than judging. I have to wake up people, he continued. I compete in radio markets and to sit there and judge a karaoke contest, the one criteria would be to have an opinion. It seems that two or three of the judges barely have an opinion and the shows in trouble, lets face it They probably do need me, but who knows if that would ever come together. And he even offered to replace the departing Simon for a massive payday. Theres isnt a better job on the planet than sitting there judging that [expletive] karaoke contest, he said on his SiriusXM radio show in February 2009. And, you know, if theyre gonna hire me, they gotta pay me a ton of [expletive] dough. If I do say so myself, I cant imagine anyone else but me replacing him, he reportedly added. I mean, I dont know. How else are they going to make that show work? Who knows how to broadcast and who knows how to be interesting? And whos not afraid to speak their mind? A rep for NBC did not have a comment on the WSJ report, when contacted by Access Hollywood. A rep for Stern did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Access. Eco-Sailing: The Storyline of Paul Watson
An eOne Films presentation, in colaboration with Telefilm Canada, the Rogers Number of Funds, of the Screen Siren Pictures production, in colaboration with Optic Nerve Films. Created by Kevin Eastwood, Trish Dolman. Directed, compiled by Trish Dolman. With: Paul Watson, Patrick Moore, Martin Sheen, Alex Cornelissen, Emily Hunter, Peter Hammarstedt, Karen Sack, Rex Weyler, Paul Spong, Allison Lance, Lani Lum-Watson, Pablo Salas, Andrew Darby, Joji Morishita, Farley Mowat, Anthony Kiedis, Pete Bethune.Divisive animal-privileges activist Paul Watson will get supportive treatment from Trish Dolman in "Eco-Sailing," although the helmer does not be put off by subjecting the man's uncomfortable sides. Outcome is a handsomely made, even exciting docu encompassing the subject's evolution from Greenpeace warrior to visit-it-alone sailing, expert at adjusting the media and wooing stars to the reason for whales, closes and whales. Dolman is definitely the polemics surrounding Watson's unconventional style, yet she's also a follower whose film is for certain to draw in enthusiasts towards the cause. Once fest exposure has run its course, smallscreen play is assured. Watson's gonzo method of environmentalism manifests itself in the much-promoted Ocean Shepherd expeditions (the topic of Animal Planet's highly effective "Whale Wars" series), when he and the crew search for whaling ships and ram all of them with their specifically rigged prow, sporting steel forecasts he calls "mom of can openers." Such tactics earn him the ire more staid animal-privileges groups for example Greenpeace, but Watson's argument is they basically protest, as they does what must be done to finish undesirable actions. Such enmity springs not only from the difference in philosophy but additionally from decades of bad bloodstream. Dolman traces a brief history of Greenpeace from the roots within the anti-Vietnam War counterculture movement from the early seventies, when Watson was among its founding people. Recklessness along with a talent for self-promotion -- Watson is certainly not otherwise a publicity hound -- brought for an acrimonious parting of the methods, still shrouded in "he stated, he stated" accusations. (There seem to be couple of female leaders either in Greenpeace or Ocean Shepherd, and definitely Watson's ways encourage acolytes a lot more than they are doing partners, because of pleasure or business.) "Eco-Sailing" follows Watson's team to Antarctica looking for Japanese whaling ships, supplying a frame for Dolman to shuttle backwards and forwards over time, referring to earlier occurrences in addition to her subject's problematic personal existence as because of so many animal-privileges activists,Watson's social associations leave a great deal to be preferred. The docu makes terrific utilization of an abundance of archival footage and photos, and also the moments of Watson and crew chasing after following the whalers are thrillingly lensed, supported through the Ocean Shepherd's m.o. of blaring Wagner's "Ride from the Valkyries" because they give chase. Old footage of closes being put is tough to look at: Though fundamental essentials images that assisted put Greenpeace into the spotlight, their inclusion here's excessively calculated to create additional support for Watson's work. Closeups of Watson typing his books are an apparent re-enactment and feel awfully cheesy.Camera (color, HD), Todd Craddock, Ian Kerr, Kristian Olsen editors, Brendan Woollard, Mike Jackson music, Michael Brook seem (Dolby Digital), Brent Calkin, Miguel Nunes. X-Men: First Class Sequel Has A Writer
It's X3's Simon KinbergIt was easy to be all about Thor and Captain America this summer, in the lead-up to The Avengers. But lest we forget, there was another, separate Marvel property that did rather well in 2011, and a sequel to X-Men: First Class is now officially underway, with Simon Kinberg penning his first draft as we speak.Who he? Well most immediately relevant is that he was one of several writers on X3: The Last Stand, Brett Ratner's appropriation of the reigns from Bryan Singer. He's also got writing credits on Mr and Mrs Smith, Jumper and Sherlock Holmes, and is a writer and producer on the forthcoming This Means War and Abe Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. There's no solid intel on what shape the further adventures of Charles Xavier, Erik Lensherr and the Junior Mutants will take. First Class director Matthew Vaughn told HItfix earlier this year that "I thought it would be fun to open with the Kennedy Assassination, and reveal that the 'magic bullet' was controlled by Magneto. That would explain the physics of it, and we see that he's pissed off because Kennedy took all the credit for saving the world and mutants weren't even mentioned..."Bryan Singer meanwhile (still a producer on the series) has said he'd like to see more about the Civil Rights Movement and Vietnam. All just musing at the moment though, with no confirmed crew or returning cast, and no start date. We'll keep you posted.
Toons submitted for Oscar total 18
'The Adventures of Tintin''Rango''Cars 2'The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has received 18 qualifying submissions for consideration in the animated category, assuring that there will be five nominees for the toon Oscar. It's just the third time the maximum has been represented in the decade since the category was created. In 2010, only 15 films were on the final list; as 16 or more are required to trigger five nominees, there were only three from that year. This year's crop is the second-largest number of entries. Twenty films qualified in 2009. The group of 18 also lays to rest the controversy over whether motion-capture, like what was used in Steven Spielberg's "The Adventures of Tintin," is an acceptable way to animate, even though the rules still clearly state that "motion-capture by itself is not an animation technique." Films like "The Smurfs" and "Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked," which were a question mark because they mixed live action and animation, can also rest easy now that they've been accepted. According to the rules, films must have a majority of animated characters and animation must factor into 75% of the film in order to qualify. Several of the films listed -- including "Tintin" and "Happy Feet Two" -- have not yet had their qualifying runs of seven consecutive days in a public theater. The complete list, in alphabetical order, includes: "Tintin"; "Alois Nebel"; "Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked"; "Arthur Christmas"; "Cars 2"; "A Cat in Paris"; "Chico & Rita"; "Gnomeo & Juliet"; "Happy Feet Two"; "Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil"; "Kung Fu Panda 2"; "Mars Needs Moms"; "Puss in Boots"; "Rango"; "Rio"; "The Smurfs"; "Winnie the Pooh"; and "Wrinkles." Contact Variety Staff at news@variety.com

What you should expect From Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol's Wild IMAX Action Sequences [Plus: Watch the completely new Trailer]
This 12 ,. 16, Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol premieres in IMAX five days just before its general release. Why exactly? Probably to encourage fans in the Tom Cruise franchise to look for the image inside the large format director Kaira Bird intended when he shot 30 minutes-cost from the fourth Ethan Search film in IMAX. To convince journalists the big format is certainly worth greater ticket prices, funding release date together with just a little early buzz, Vital examined about 20 minutes cost of untamed action sequences within the Rave 18 theater in La the other day. Ahead, the stomach-flipping particulars (and extremely mild spoilers). Producer Bryan Burk (Lost, Star Trek) introduced the footage by explaining that “there’s nothing Tom loves greater than making these movies. […] He gives 110 percent that's daunting because I really, in my best day, give five percent. He loves doing stunts and being a member of it. Literally, every single shot the truth is is Tom Cruise. You will discover no stuntmen involved. He did have a very stuntman who'd get available and test wires and things. [The stuntman] generally is courageous — apart from one fear that is levels. Fortunately for your relaxation people, Tom didn’t have that.” With this particular disclaimer, Burk put for the first sequence which begins in the jeep as Tom Cruise’s IMF agent Ethan Search and also the team (made up of Jeremy Renner, Paula Patton and, delivering the comic relief, Simon Pegg) speed towards Dubai. “They are really on ghost protocol meaning the entire agency is shut lower — it does not exist,” referred to Burk ahead of time. The foursome heads for the finest building in the world, the Burj Khalifa to “to stop a celebration from a couple who should not be meeting.” Once setup inside — with Patton’s character surveying the best floor in disguise — Renner, Cruise and Pegg’s figures see how they'll infiltrate an impenetrable suite high above them. The best choice they have, it seems, is ideal for Search to scale the structure with hi-tech “sticky mitts” that could support his weight and adhere themselves for the building. The only real problem? They, being such new technology, every once in awhile malfunction — when the film’s hero is nearly half mile above ground. The entire sequence is shot in dizzying IMAX with sweeping creating shots showing a attractive city — so the insanely high building that Cruise increases. One particularly stomach-churning shot pans within the building before flipping inside the tower — searching lower — and keeps going. Another impressive shot runs lower the medial side in the building, giving audiences the sense that they are riding a ride. Without giving a lot of away, the stress-filled sequence — throughout which Ethan Hawke’s existence reaches risk multiple occasions — finishes while using perfect comedy button from Simon Pegg. The levity was, as Burk referred to, a thing that wasn't part of the Jason Bourne franchise ahead of time but a thing that director Bird felt passionate about infusing into the fourth installment. The second sequence proven will be a high-pace chase scene that occurs within a sandstorm. Audience people cannot see anything except sand granules whipping their way and Tom Cruise, who's expected to chase a baddie employing a Gps navigation navigation tracker device only since he cannot see greater than six inches before him. Oh, and that i adore that factor relating to this chase occur in automobiles racing at high speeds? The scene finishes since the sand storm does — the haze and sand fall away and Cruise remains searching at his target while he speeds away. So yes, if you're planning to produce a vacation to the local IMAX theater this holidays, maybe consider Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol. Tom Cruise only risked his existence to offer you these dying-repel movie thrills. Watch the completely new trailer, because of Yahoo: Follow Julie Burns on Twitter. Follow Movieline on Twitter.

Showtime renews 'Homeland'
'Homeland'Showtime decision to get another season of their latest drama, "Homeland," came like a no-brainer, and clearly the pay cabler thinks the skein includes a lengthy future in front of it. Entertainment leader David Nevins reiterated that, even though show is dependant on the Israeli series "Criminals of War," the internet made some major changes getting it to the air, including adding the CIA offer performed by Claire Danes. Due to the various story lines, Showtime does not need to simulate "Criminals" moving forward. Keeping audiences and experts within the show's favor moving forward is really a high priority for Nevins, who clearly realizes the mistakes produced by a number of serialized shows, including AMC's "The Killing," which unsuccessful to correctly summary a story which was promoted to be completed. "There's extreme excitement for this show," Nevins told Variety. "Clearly it's caught some bit of the zeitgeist, which is resonating with individuals. Our only anxiety is do they really (producers and authors) continue the good work and never fall under the serialized traps of other shows?" Rankings happen to be strong because the March. 2 premiere. Starring Danes, Damian Lewis and Mandy Patinkin, "Homeland" arrived at 4.4 million audiences (across multiple platforms) its debut and it has elevated its aud since, using its 4th episode Sunday drawing series-best rankings. Professional created by Howard Gordon and Alex Gansa, who modified Gideon Raff's "Criminals of War" (from Keshet Broadcasting), "Homeland" will start production on season two early in the year. Avi Nir, Went Telem and Michael Cuesta also professional produce. Pay cable rivals Cinemax and Starz happen to be quick to resume their very own series recently, frequently with little, as well as no, rankings data. Starz lately gave another-season order to "Boss" prior to the show even started and Cinemax has from time to time restored a set for only one episode. "Homeland" was the very first drama greenlit by Nevins -- "Shameless" was handed its series order right before he showed up and changed Bob Greenblatt -- and also the terrorism-focused skein has demonstrated a change within the net's programming taste. "I had been always very thinking about the fabric also it appeared a waste to possess 'Dexter' alone within the fall," Nevins describes. I had been aware this fall could be tenth anniversary of 9/11 and felt 'Homeland' could be perfectly spotted." Nevins reiterated the core cast could be back for that second season but wouldn't guarantee anything beyond that, nor the size of their deals. Internet is presently going through contract discussions with "Dexter" star Michael C. Hall. Nevins is relying on the dispute to become settled lengthy prior to the year, if there's one, starts shooting early next summer time. Next large challenge for Showtime would be to launch dark comedy "House of Lies" with Don Cheadle and Kristen Bell. Skein, from creator Matthew Carnahan, is really a scathing take a look at a self-loathing management consultant from the top-tier firm. Series will debut Jan. 8, together with season premieres of "Shameless" and "Californication." "It is a large glossy reveal that examines how American business continues to be screwed up," Nevins stated. "It feels very relevant." Contact Jon Weisman at jon.weisman@variety.com

Julianne Hough & Kenny Wormald Still Emotional Over DWTS Performance
First Published: October 13, 2011 5:17 PM EDT Credit: ABC LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Caption Julianne Hough and Kenny Wormald of Footloose smile after performing on Week 4 of Dancing with the Stars, Oct. 11, 2011Julianne Hough made her triumphant return to Dancing with the Stars on Tuesday and she remains awed by the emotional experience. Its pretty surreal, Julianne told Access Hollywood on Wednesday at the premiere of her film, Footloose, in NY City. The show has been supportive of everything that Ive wanted to do since day one. And my fans, too they really gave me their blessing to go and do movies and my music and everything. I left the show to go and do Footloose. To come back on the show, for the first time in years, promoting Footloose it was very emotional, she continued. Theyre my family, and I just feel blessed that they let me kind of spread my wings and grow a little bit. Juliannes Footloose co-star, Kenny Wormald, who performed two numbers with the dancer-turned-singer-turned-actress on DWTS, was also very proud of what they showed America. It was a bigger moment than just dancing on the show. We were representing Footloose and it was also her comeback, Kenny told Access. So, it was a huge moment, and I think we handled it well Im very happy. Prepping the numbers to Holding Out For A Hero and Blake Sheltons Footloose cover took time, and despite their busy schedule promoting their reboot of the classic Kevin Bacon film, the two got the job done. We were in the middle of the press tour for Footloose, so we had to find time in between when we could rehearse, Kenny said. But we made it work. Shes the ultimate professional, and Im a dancer myself, so we made it work. Also making it work was Juliannes brother, Derek Hough, who injured and possibly dislocated his shoulder while rehearsing for Tuesdays show, where the siblings danced to Shake a Tail Feather. I dont know if it was dislocated, but he definitely hurt his shoulder, and its been hurt for a little while, Julianne said. Its kind of funny though, because the last time we did our number on the show to Great Balls of Fire with the piano and everything, I had just had surgery, and then he had a terrible arm, and Im sick in this one. So, its just kind of like the Hough thing you just do it, you wing it, you just go for it. Footloose opens in theaters on October 14. Copyright 2011 by NBC Universal, Inc. All rights reserved.
